Located west of Washington, DC, along the Dulles Tollway Corridor, 1900 Reston distinguishes itself from the forgettable suburban office typology. The considered integration of the building into the suburban landscape ensures an active ground plane, sheltered by the tapering form above. The building maintains a scalability that encourages pedestrian movement within the site. A cutaway plaza occupies the ground surface, with careful orientation to be self-shaded in the summer.

Equally considered is the impression from the expressway, with the bold formal move capturing the attention of drivers speeding by each day. Its dramatically sloped façade and exposed concrete exoskeleton appear in motion, delicately balanced on its axis. Relying on fine detailing and tested technology, 1900 Reston redefines the fabric of its namesake community and, in the process, sets a new standard for the suburban office building.

A simple and elegant facade of full-height glass panels and expanded metal spandrels form the backdrop of the expressive concrete exoskeleton. The structure forms the enclosure of a protected plaza below. Exposed concrete, expanded metal, and polished black granite provide a technical expression for an otherwise simple, yet elegant lobby.
