1000M Featured on PBS NOVA’s Building Stuff: Reach It
November 22, 2024
1000M was recently spotlighted on PBS NOVA’s Building Stuff: Reach It!, an episode focused on how architects and engineers are developing creative new ways to move people on Earth and beyond. The program featured Jahn’s Director, Lynda Dossey alongside structural engineer David Fields of Magnusson Klemencic Associates, who shared insights on the project’s design and engineering.
Opened in 2024, 1000M marks the south end of Chicago’s Historic Michigan Avenue District and adds to the growing cluster of high-rises at Roosevelt and Michigan avenues. Redefining luxury high-rise living, the tower offers more than 80,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities, including Chicago’s highest residential rooftop observation deck on the 73rd floor.
On NOVA, Lynda and David discussed the measures taken to address Chicago’s challenging wind conditions. The building’s stability is aided by two tuned-mass dampers at its peak. These massive counterweights reduce sway and help ensure both safety and occupant comfort. The NOVA feature highlights how close collaboration between architects and engineers shaped both the design and technical solutions that make 1000M a standout in Chicago’s skyline.
