City Gate Tower/ Sharjah, UAE/ 2019
City Gate Tower is integrated with the infrastructure and building fabric of the larger RAK Gateway City.
A totally new building type – a framework wherein the different uses are suspended and optimized. This building extends Gateway City vertically and is flexible to accommodate commercial/office/hotel/residential and special uses.
The energy concept investigates the idea to draw cool air from the upper atmosphere through its internal tube to condition the lower floors.
Citygate is the newest and most iconic landmark in Sharjah. The angular design starts as an equilateral triangle in the ground floor plan. As the building rises vertically, the facades slope both inward and outward to create changing hexagonal floor plates at each level. The design culminates in another equilateral triangle at the roof, which is inverted relative to the ground floor. The resulting design is a triangular tower that rotates 180 degrees at the top.
The intended grouping of colorful and slender towers will mark the western expansion of the Sahara Center Mall, Sharjah’s largest shopping and entertaining mall. The towers are carefully positioned to maximize views and open space in such a way that they meet the ground by concealing the podium.
The 24- story commercial tower is located at the intersection of Dubai and Sharjah. It provides a unique design feature in its dynamic form and its complex structural design, which allows an abundance of natural light to flood into the office spaces. The lobby design carries layered patterns and motifs that are contextual in origin and create a light filled and textured entry experience.
